• kevin coyne & siren Strange Re-Locomotion (180g yellow vinyl double LP, £21.75)

    label: Ozit

Limited to 500 copies in a beautiful gatefold sleeve. Live studio quality recording. Taken from the Kevin Coyne and Siren reunion show: organised in 2003 by Chris Hewitt. The band: Kevin Coyne vocals, guitar, Dave Clague guitar and original Siren members Nick Cudworth on piano & Harri Hirschamn on bass guitar. Having not played together since the 1970s on their infamous Dandelion Records albums, Siren- that is Kevin Coyne, Nick Cudworth and Dave Clague agreed to perform a live show in 2003 as part of a Dandelion Records Convention Chris Hewitt was putting together. Heavily plugged for a couple of weeks in the run up to the concert on the radio in 2003 by John Peel, a mentor of the band since 1969, Peelie was disciplined by his producer for plugging the upcoming concert too much, he was supposed to attend and had booked the hotel near to the gig but his daughter was expecting a baby around that very weekend and it did arrive the day before the concert and he had to drop out. Both John Peel and Andy Kershaw were strong supporters of Kevin Coyne and to hear Kevin walk on stage with his original bandmates (including ex Bonzo Dave Clague) and perform tracks off the Siren albums with no rehearsals around 33 years later is amazing. Sadly within two years of this recording both Kevin Coyne and John Peel had sadly left us. This album is a fine document of how talented Kevin and Siren were. Track listing: Strange locomotion, 16 women, First time I saw your face, Gardener man, Ze ze ze, Cheat me, Witch, Miner Song , Marlene, Saviour, Baby Blue, Blame it on the night, The Stride, Relaxing with Bonnie Lou.
