• serendipity singers Love Is a State of Mind (22-track CD, £6.75)

    label: Now Sounds

ESSENTIAL SUNSHINE POP FROM 1968! • FIRST TIME ON CD ANYWHERE! • FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES! • INCLUDES BOTH STEREO & MONO LP MIXES! As the folk era gave way to the psychedelic sounds of the late ’60s, most folk groups didn’t weather the storm. THE SERENDIPITY SINGERS, however, reimagined themselves, adding on Greenwich Village folk rocker Nick Holmes, and Peggy Santiglia of girl group legends The Angels, and created this brilliant sunshine/psych pop marvel, released on United Artists Records in May 1968. Sounding nothing like the vocal group’s earlier, traditional choral-folk incarnation, Love Is A State Of Mind features a mélange of Free Design-esque sunshine pop harmonies, dense orchestration, fuzz guitars, sitar-laden raga rock, and reverb-drenched psych pop, performed by some of New York City’s finest studio musicians. They were smoking the good stuff. CD features both the STEREO and very rare MONO mixes of the album, plus the non-LP single, “Illusions” b/w “What Will We Do With The Child.” Mastered by Alan Brownstein FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES! The full-colour booklet includes rare photos and extensive liner notes featuring the participation of original band members! Produced for reissue by Steve Stanley.
